For several years now, there has been an abundance of expert opinion on the future of jobs in the age of artificial intelligence, with ChatGPT last year reigniting the debate.
And yet, the title of the world's biggest job creator could well go to the ecological transition. Beyond the obvious transformation of the energy sector, other sectors of the economy will not be outdone: road freight declining in favor of rail and cyclo-logistics? From car production to bicycles? From new construction to renovation? Increased labor requirements in agriculture?
To succeed, the ecological transition will obviously have to address the physical constraints on energy supplies and mining resources, but also human resources. The challenge is twofold: to ensure the availability of the necessary skills, and to support retraining, particularly in sectors that are likely to contract.
We'll be looking at this issue from two angles with our two speakers: the organization of skills transition throughout France, and individual career guidance.
Yannick Saleman is a graduate of the Ecole des Ponts, the London School of Economics and Columbia University. He worked for over 7 years at the World Bank on economic development projects in India and Africa. He piloted the "employment" chapter of the Shift Project's Plan de Transformation de l'Economie Française, in which he examines the future of the 12 million jobs (i.e. 45% of current jobs) directly concerned by the low-carbon transformation proposed in the Plan.
Noëmie Martin-Pascual is a graduate of EDHEC business school, and co-founded Bloomr Impulse, a training organization dedicated to developing skills to support corporate transformation. She is also a Shifter (member of The Shifters, an association supporting the Shift Project), and in this context, co-author of the report "Ecological transition of employment: an individual and collective challenge". She co-created the Fresque de l'Emploi Durable, designed to raise awareness of the links between transformations in employment and ecological transition, and the need to adapt employment support accordingly.
Our speakers will also answer any questions you may have.
