The whole truth and nothing but the truth about France's loss of electrical sovereignty
Organised by "Energy"
Electrical Energy
The Bureau of the Groupe Professionnel Énergie is organizing a series of conferences entitled "Ruptures énergétiques, Transformations sociales et industrielles".
After Laurent Fournier for the "Don de Chaleur" association and Nicolas Goldberg on "the electricity market", we now offer you an online conference by Fabien Choné*, hosted by Michel Cochet (1973) and Perig L'Haridon (2008).
"The whole truth and nothing but the truth about France's loss of electrical sovereignty".
RTE's forecasts published last October have not entirely come true. The winter passed without any major crisis, perhaps thanks to clement weather and better control of consumption.
Nevertheless, compared to the situation at the beginning of the 2010s, the situation of the electricity fleet has deteriorated significantly, and it would certainly be impossible now to cope with the historic peak of February 2012, which was 102 GW.
This deficit situation (15 GW), as announced by RTE, is not due to the gas crisis triggered by the conflict in Ukraine, given the low dependence of our electricity on gas.nor to the shutdown of Fessenheim (1.8 GW, i.e. < 3% of the nuclear fleet), nor to the delay in the development of renewable energies.
In particular, choices made in the 2010s have led to increased dependence on France's neighboring power systems.
*FabienChoné, our guest speaker, is currently Chairman of FABELSI, a consulting and investment company specializing in the energy transition. has acquired solid expertise in the electricity market during his 26 years in senior positions with companies and institutions in the sector.
Fabien Choné first worked for EDF in the Research and Development Department and the Strategy Department. He then co-founded Direct Energie in 2003, which became the leading alternative supplier on the mass electricity and gas markets in France, acquired by the TOTAL group in 2018. He was Chief Operating Officer until 2019, when he left the Group.
Fabien Choné also founded the Association Nationale des Opérateurs Détaillants en Énergie (A.N.O.D.E) in 2006, and chaired it until 2019. At the same time, he was a member of the Conseil Supérieur de l'Énergie (CSE) from 2010 to 2019, and a director of the Union Franç aise de l'Électricité (UFE).aise de l'Électricité (UFE) from 2011 to 2019 and of Université Paris 2 (Panthéon - Assas) from 2012 to 2020. He has also been a member of the Steering Committee of the Commission de Régulation de l'Énergie (CRE) Foresight Committee since its creation in 2017.
Fabien Choné is a graduate of École Polytechnique and École Nationale des Ponts & Chaussées.
Introducing the Moderators
Perig L'Haridon has been with EDF for 15 years. Currently team leader for the development of major hydroelectric projects in France and abroad, Perig was previously in charge of hydroelectric schemes in the Alps.
He also spent seven years with the Upstream/Downstream Optimization & Trading Division, working on energy markets from short-term optimization to long-term asset management.
Michel Cochet worked in the world of electrical energy, first at EDF, then at Cegelec and finally at Siemens Energy.
Michel spent over twenty years working in export markets, notably in South-East Asia, where he lived for more than six years. On his return to Europe, he worked for Siemens, developing major projects (in particular gas-fired combined-cycle power plants) for Poweo, EON France and Direct Energie (now Total Energie).
Passionate about innovation, he now devotes his time to advising start-ups in the energy sector. A member of the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association, he co-chairs the GP "Numérique et Environnement, leads the GP "Énergie and co-edits the Revue TELECOM.
