We'd like to draw your attention to a conference organized by Club Centrale-Énergies and Club X-environnement:

The environmental challenges of current and future nuclear projects

on Wednesday 3 April 2024 at 19:00.

with:

  • Jacky Rousselle, Ecole Centrale de Lyon engineer, Atomic Engineering engineer, over 40 years' experience with EDF on new nuclear projects in France and abroad.
    Member of the French Geological Society since 1991.

The speaker will present current uranium supplies for the French nuclear fleet, future needs and estimated global uranium resources. He will present the vision of the French Directorate General for Energy and Climate for the downstream fuel cycle. Finally, he will share his views on the environmental assessment criteria for future nuclear projects.

  • and Daniel Heuer, Director of Research Emeritus at LPSC-CNRS/IN2P3, a specialist in molten-salt reactors;

After presenting the main foundations of nuclear reactor physics, such as reactivity, counter-reaction coefficients and fissile material regeneration, the speaker will go on to explain the different fuel cycles and the two main classes of nuclear reactor: solid fuel and liquid fuel. This will be an opportunity to examine the problems associated with radioactive waste and nuclear safety, the two major societal obstacles to the massive deployment of civil nuclear power.

Secondly, he will present the challenges facing the nuclear industry of the future, and in particular its role in the fight against climate change. We'll see that the challenges are enormous, both from a financial and a resource point of view. He will suggest some ways of meeting these challenges, and some global deployment scenarios to shed light on these aspects.

Our speakers will also answer any questions you may have.
