[Télécom ParisTalks] 5G: EVOLUTION OR REVOLUTION?

13th conference in the Télécom ParisTalks cycle co-organized by
Télécom ParisTech alumni and Télécom Evolution

in collaboration with SEE

Everyone's talking about 5G, it's the hot topic of the moment!

Standards are being finalized, players (operators, manufacturers, service providers, etc.) are positioning themselves, researchers are imagining new uses, announcements of experiments are multiplying, and the authorities are preparing the regulatory framework and the allocation of frequencies,

But what is 5G?
Is it simply a new generation of mobile networks and services?
Or is it a new ecosystem that will truly enable new uses, which we've only just begun to imagine?

In other words, is 5G an evolution or a revolution?

The aim of this conference is to contribute to this debate, after taking stock of a number of questions:
- What performance is 5G expected to deliver?
- What new functionalities will it enable?
- What will these famous new uses be?
- What's the status of standardization?
- When will the new frequency bands be allocated, and when will they be available?
- What is the realistic timetable for the development of components and terminals compliant with these new standards?
- When will networks be deployed and new services marketed?

To better understand these issues and answer the many questions that arise, the organizers will give the floor to recognized experts who will present their points of view:

- Alain Maloberti (1979), former Director of Networks at Orange, one of the fathers of GSM
- Carole Manero,
Head of the Mobile Services Practice at IDATE DigiWorld,
- Pierre-Jean Benghozi, Member of the ARCEP College, Professor at Ecole Polytechnique
- Arnaud Vamparys (1995), Senior VP Radio Networks at Orange
- Didier Berthoumieux (1980), in charge of standardization and IoT strategies at Nokia Bell Labs
- Gauthier Dereux, in charge of Wireless Marketing at Huawei

In the second part, a round-table discussion with questions and answers from the floor will bring together these speakers and other experts:

- Bertrand Debray (1987), COO of Sequans
- Franck Bouétard (1990), CEO of Ericsson France
- Jean Pierre Bienaimé, General Secretary of 5GPP and President of IREST
- Marceau Coupechoux (1999), Professor at Télécom ParisTech

The conference will be followed by a cocktail reception.

Access to the conference is free and open to all. Please feel free to pass on the invitation.

Registration (online) is imperative for access to the conference room. ID will be required at the entrance to comply with the vigipirate plan.
