[Télécom ParisTalks] Quantum computers and post-quantum cryptography: when will engineering take the place of research?

19th conference in the Télécom ParisTalks cycle co-organized by
Télécom Paris alumni and Télécom Evolution

Quantum computing - or quantum computing as it is also known - is at the heart of the news, thanks to recent announcements and controversies surrounding technological breakthroughs, the huge budgets now being mobilized worldwide, and thepublication in mid-January 2020 of the national action plan designed and launched by the French public authorities.

But beyond these announcements of acceleration, what do we really know, and what can we expect, about this new disruptive technology? What initiatives will or should be taken, not only by the public and private sectors, but also by engineering schools?

Organized just a few days after the official announcement of the French action plan and the resources allocated to it, our evening of information and debate is aimed at all audiences, including non-scientists. Starting with a reminder of the state of the art in technology and the challenges still to be met, it will look at industrialization and the prospects for deployment in our daily lives, with its deadlines, constraints, opportunities and players, as well as the stakes of supremacy or, conversely, independence, and whether or not there is a first-mover advantage. The panel of speakers, bringing together the various stakeholders - researchers, industrialists, users, investors specializing in quantum technology, public authorities, etc. - will provide a multi-faceted perspective: when, how much, by whom, to the detriment of what or whom?

  • Iordanis Kerenidis, Director of Research at the CNRS and co-rapporteur of the report "Quantum: the technological shift France won't miss", published on January 9, 2020.
  • Olivier Tonneau, co-founder of the Quantonation investment fund.
  • Philippe Duluc, CTO Big data & security, Atos
  • Henri Calandra, Expert in numerical methods and high-performance computing for geosciences, Total
  • Romain Alléaume (2004), Teacher and researcher, Télécom Paris,
  • Philippe Campagne-Ibarcq, Researcher, Inria

Moderator: Linda Heurtebize, co-chair of Télécom Paris Alumni cybersecurity group
