Submarine cables: vital infrastructure!

Organised by "Networks & Services"

Submarine cables are vital to global telecommunications:
without them, the Internet and social networks would not exist as we know them...

The aim of this webinar is to present this often little-known field:

  • Its specific features and project dimension: a submarine cable is not like any other transmission medium.
  • Its technological dimension, with the implementation of the latest advances in optical transmission technologies, which has enabled us to keep pace with the exponential growth in bandwidth requirements for the Internet and social networks, particularly for video,
  • Marine activities, with its cable-laying ships for cable laying, maintenance and repair,

Lastly, we'll be presenting the global network of submarine cables and its players, as well as the latest projects underway or announced, which are increasingly being promoted and owned by the world's biggest broadband consumers. This raises a number of geostrategic questions...

To shed light on all these aspects, we have called on the best experts:

  • Loïc LE FUR (1996), Managing Director, AXIOM
  • Jean-Christophe ANTONA (2000), Technical Director, Alcatel Submarine Networks
  • Didier DILLARD (1986 ), CEO, Orange Marine
  • Carine ROMANETTI (1996), Head of Networks Strategy & Submarine Systems, Orange International Networks, Infrastructures & Services (OINIS)

Following their presentations, there will be a round-table discussion with answers to questions posed by participants.
