Fiber Optics and the end of the Copper network #3/3: Copper extinction

Organised by "Networks & Services"

Over the past few years in France, in parallel with the rollout of mobile networks, we have seen an accelerathe rollout of fiber optics throughout the country, to connect residential customers as well as businesses and local authorities. Logically enough, this massive rollout will be followed by the extinction of the copper network, scheduled between 2026 and 2030.

What's the current state of national rollout? What's happening abroad?

Who are the players? What are the best practices?

What technological developments are underway for fiber, networks and terminals?

And how can we prepare for the end of the copper network? Are the planned deadlines tenable? What alternative technologies are available when fiber connection is technically and/or economically difficult?

To answer these questions, the Télécom Paris alumni Networks and Services Group is organizing a series of three webinars:

- A first webinar to take stock of optical distribution network rollouts in France and abroad, as well as related practices and processes.

- A second webinar to discuss technical developments in fiber and equipment for optical distribution networks.

- a third webinar to present the copper network extinction project and the many issues associated with it.

There will be five presentations, by the following speakers:

  • Ghislain Heude (ARCEP): France's copper switch-off plan
  • Roland Montagne (1994) (IDATE): copper network switch-off abroad
  • Muriel Germa (ORANGE France): planning the shutdown of the copper network in France
  • Hervé De Tournadre (Bouygues Telecom): the viewpoint of a service operator leasing copper pairs
  • Emmanuel Dainciart (LaFibre64): the viewpoint of a territorial manager

These five speakers will then take part in a round-table discussion with questions and answers.
