Fiber optics and the end of the copper network #1/3: networks & processes
Organised by "Networks & Services"
Over the past few years in France, in parallel with the rollout of mobile networks, we have seen an accelerathe rollout of fiber optics throughout the country, to connect residential customers as well as businesses and local authorities. Logically enough, this massive rollout will be followed by the extinction of the copper network, scheduled between 2026 and 2030.
What's the current state of national rollout? What's happening abroad?
Who are the players? What are the best practices?
What technological developments are underway for fiber, networks and terminals?
And how can we prepare for the end of the copper network? Are the planned deadlines tenable? What alternative technologies are available when fiber connection is technically and/or economically difficult?
To answer these questions, the Télécom Paris alumni Networks and Services Group is organizing a series of three webinars:
A first webinar to take stock of optical distribution network rollouts in France and abroad, as well as related practices and processes.
- a second webinar to discuss technical developments in fiber and equipment for optical distribution networks
- a third webinar to present the copper network extinction project and the many issues associated with it.
The date of the first webinar is November 15, from 6pm to 8pm.
Following an introduction by Laura Peytavin (1990), President of Télécom Paris alumni, four presentations will be given by the following speakers:
- Olivier Corolleur (2003) (ARCEP): Fiber deployment in France
- Roland Montagne (1994) (IDATE): Fiber deployment worldwide
- Jacques Poleni (CREDO): Deployment best practices
- Richard Toper (1976) (SETICS): testimonial from a deployment player
These four speakers, who may be joined by other guests, will then take part in a round-table discussion with questions and answers. Dorian Bourgeoisat (2023) will share his experience of setting up an ISP network between university residences on the Saclay plateau.
Please feel free to circulate this program to your networks.
