Developments in space technologies: broadband satellites, constellations and pseudo-satellites
The Télécom ParisTech Alumni "Networks and Services" group is organizing a conference/debate on the theme :
Following the speakers' presentations, there will be a question-and-answer session.
Access is free and the conference is open to all. Please feel free to pass on the invitation.
Registration (online) is imperative to gain access to the conference room, and proof of identity will be required under the vigipirate plan.
The satellite communications sector is booming, and a number of technological breakthroughs have been made in recent years.
New-generation geostationary satellites will soon have capacities in the Terabit/s range, and will coexist with constellations of several hundred low-earth orbit satellites offering universal fixed and mobile coverage with very high capacity. Thanks to these new systems, satellite services will have performance levels comparable to those of the latest terrestrial networks, and will often represent the most competitive communications solution in many suburban and rural areas.
Other recent innovations complete the picture of a rapidly evolving space sector, from the forthcoming launch of the European Galileo positioning system to the emergence of observation and communication solutions based on stratospheric platforms at 20 km altitude.
To understand the scope of these numerous innovations, the Télécom ParisTech Alumni Networks and Services Group has brought together several experts in the space field:

- Damien Garot, Director of Development Projects at Eutelsat, who will talk to us about the growth-through-innovation strategy of one of the leading satellite telecommunications operators;
- Eric Zeis, Head of LEO Telecom Programs at Airbus, who will explain the industrial challenges associated with the new satellite platforms for the OneWeb constellation;
- Alain Bories, Senior Vice President Strategy & Business Development at OHB, who will provide an update on innovations in the European Galileo positioning system;
- Michel Masselin, Director of Innovative Projects at Thales Alenia Space, who will present the potential of the Stratobus stratospheric platform.
