[Télécom ParisTalks] New satellite networks: risks and opportunities

20th conference in the Télécom ParisTalks cycle co-organized by
Télécom Paris alumni andTélécom Evolution

Today, we are witnessing the emergence of numerous space-based innovations, all with the ambition of constituting an essential component of future telecommunications networks.

Several broadband constellation projects, some of which involve launching thousands of satellites into low-Earth orbit, are competing to bring broadband to the whole planet. But the development of such networks requires very high levels of investment, and they have yet to demonstrate their viability, while terrestrial networks are becoming more and more efficient and offer increasingly global coverage. These new constellations also face competition from other space-based innovations, such as geostationary broadband satellites with continental coverage, and stratospheric platforms with regional coverage.

Other projects, based on a smaller number of microsatellites, focus on the Internet of Things market. Here, the investments required are lower, but there are already a number of start-ups in this market that have yet to identify the applications that will ensure their viability.

This year's Télécom ParisTalks conference will be held by videoconference, and will feature contributions from major players and new entrants in the European space industry.industry, who will present their analysis of the current revolutions and what to expect from them, in terms of competition or convergence between the terrestrial and satellite networks of the future:

  • Damien Garot, consultant, founder of Jansky Partners
  • Yohann Leroy, Technical Director, operator Eutelsat
  • Hervé Derrey (1991), Managing Director, Thales Alenia Space
  • Fabien Jordan, CEO of constellation operator Astrocast
  • David Henri, CEO of start-up Exotrail

These speakers will then take part in a virtual round table, during which they will answer questions posed online by conference listeners.

You must register online to receive the link to the Zoom videoconference, which will be sent to you on the evening of November 18.
