Public debate and the environment

This conference is organized by our partner X Environnement at Maison des Ponts 42 rue Boissière (Métro Boissière). It will be followed by a cocktail reception. It can also be accessed remotely via zoom.

Major infrastructure projects, environmental policies and general policies have a significant impact on the environment, and require public debate to build consensus. When these debates are highly controversial, can we ensure a well-informed and constructive dialogue between stakeholders (civil society, experts, politicians)? This conference-debate will address this question with our two guests, using case studies such as mediation on the Notre-Dame-des-Landes project (2017), the public debate on thepublic debate on the radioactive materials and waste management plan (2019), and the debate on the Penly reactors and the new EPR2s (2022-2023):

- Michel Badré, former member of the French EESC, meof Notre-Dame-des-Landes, member of the Commission du débat sur les déchets radioactifs, Chairman of the Commission du débat de Penly et des EPR2. Author of the book La démocratie environnementale face à la réalité (Quae 2025).

- Thierry Libaert, member of the European EESC, President of the Academy of Controversy and Sensitive Communication. Author of some thirty books, including Les nouvelles luttes sociales et environnementales: Notre Dame des Landes, droit au logement, gaz de schiste... Les nouvelles formes de la contestation (Vuibert 2015) and Quelles Sciences pour le Monde à venir (Odile Jacob 2020).
