The challenges facing cellular networks as data traffic explodes

Networks & Services Group Conference
The challenges facing cellular networks
in the face of exploding data traffic

The rollout of 4G nationwide and its successful marketing, the extraordinary progress of handsets, and the incredible surge in video needs and the new user-friendliness enabled by social networks have combined since 2014 in a fantastic growth in data exchanged over mobile networks, multiplied by a factor of 20 in five years.

Electronic communications market in France (Q3 2018),
Economic indicators,
ARCEP

This development, and its future prospects, raises a number of questions:

What are the appetites of smartphone users, and what satisfactions are they looking for?

What are the consumption patterns of these unprecedented uses?

What are the technical resource implications of this incredible development for the networks?

How can (and will) operators cope with the pressure of traffic on their networks?

How are local populations and communities experiencing the development in their environment of the thousands of emission points required to deliver traffic to mobile users?and the administrative and regulatory framework governing these operations, a framework profoundly changed by the ELAN law in 2018?

How will 5G change the face of mobile services and their impact on our homes?

These questions, and any others you may have, will be addressed by :

  • Samuel Coavoux, sociologist of media usage, Orange labs/Sense
  • Xavier Lemuet, Research Director, Digital and Media Division, Mediamétrie
  • Régis Duval, consultant, for an analysis of ARCEP data
  • Philippe Séhier, Nokia
  • Laurent Thiébaut, Nokia
  • Philippe Roulié, CTO, Bouygues Telecom
  • Marc Tourelle, Mayor of Noisy-Le-Roi, and Vice-Chairman of the Groupement de communes de Versailles Grand Parc

In the second part of the session, a round-table discussion will be held, with a Q&A session with the audience, featuring the following speakers
