Public exposure to mobile network waves: the current situation and developments with 5G

REGISTRATION CLOSES DECEMBER 3 AT 2:00 PM (PARIS)

As 5G approaches commercial deployment in France, concerns about exposure to waves from cellular networks are taking on unprecedented acuity. Indeed, 5G marks a new stage in the exponential growth of mobile uses and the networks that support them, and at the same time introduces a fundamental transformation of radio emission processes and consequently of exposure to waves through Massive MIMO technology.

To shed light on this issue, which is currently dominating the media, the Télécom Paris alumni Networks & Services group is offering expert technical views on the state of the art in terms of studies and reflections on the current situation and future developments due to 5G, as well as providing our members and correspondents with as complete a set of documents as possible to help them make the best possible assessment of this multifaceted issue.

Three presentations are planned (presentations in English due to the participation of Mr Ronald Melnick, formerly of the NTP; designer of this organization's study on the physiological effects of 900MHz; questions, in written form only via a dialogue box provided for this purpose, may be asked in either English or French):

  • In the first place, a detailed presentation of the NTP (National Toxicology Program, an agency of the US Ministry of Health NIEHS) study on rats male&female and mice published in final release form Nov 1st, 2018 in its conception principles, ways&means specifically developed, and results

Ronald L. MELNICK, PhD
Toxicologist-Biochemist, Designer of the NTP study
Director of Special Programs@NTP (retired)

  • Second, a presentation how operators build security perimeters around 5G antennas taking into account 5G signals and especially Massive MIMO on top of legacy networks (2G/3G/4G)
Azeddine GATI
Head of Green Wireless communication, 5G networks, Near field communication at ORANGE LABS NETWORKS

  • Third, a presentation will address how exposure assessments are approached, evaluated and discussed with relevant bodies such as ANFR, ANSES and CENELEC. Methods and protocols used to check compliance with relevant sanitary limits such as ICNIRP guidelines will be described. Present and actual exposure to radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure in operated networks will also be discussed. The presentation will address how the means of geostatistic, stochastic modelization and artificial intelligence are nowadays used to assess and monitor the actual RF exposure. The 5G specificities, compared with 4G, 3G and 2G ones, (e.g. frequency bands or TDD), the impacts on exposure of network architectures (eg microcells versus macrocells or massive MiMO) and usages evolution will also be discussed in this talk.
Joe WIART (1992), Pr
Holder of the C2M Chair "Characterization, Modeling and Control" of exposure to electromagnetic waves at Télécom Paris

Each of these presentations will be followed by a short part-session to answer questions specific to each talk; the whole will be concluded by a global session in which the 3 speakers will answer questions from participants.

Régis Duval (1981) will host the evening
Co-Founder and CEO of PromAether SAS, cellular support services for local authorities

Online registration is imperative to receive the link to the Zoom
videoconference, which will be sent to you on December 3
.

This conference is open to all those interested in the subject.
