On the initiative of Vincent Lobry (X74, Telecom Corps) and with the support of X-Bretagne, Florent Charrier, Director of the Orange Marine Atlantic Base, invites us to visit his facilities and the cable ship Pierre de Fermat, on November 7 from 4pm to 8:30pm in Brest.
The visit will be followed by a friendly drink in the port of Brest for those who wish.
An engineer by training, Florent Charrier began his career as an officer in the French Navy. In 2007, he left the Navy to become an Installation Engineer on Alcatel-Lucent cable-laying vessels (Alcatel Submarine Networks / Louis Dreyfus Armateur), where he developed expertise in the management of maritime operations, laying and maintenance of cables and offshore and submarine systems. In 2018, he joined Orange Marine. Florent Charrier has been Director of Orange Marine's Atlantic Marine Base since 2024.
With around 15% of the global market, Orange Marine is a major player in the installation and maintenance of submarine cables. Orange is a member of the Dunant transatlantic cable consortium with Google, and the Amitié transatlantic cable consortium with Facebook and Microsoft.
The Pierre de Fermat cable-laying company maintains submarine cables in the Atlantic and Northern Europe zone (ACHA zone).
The event, organized by X Bretagne, is supported by X Mer, Ponts Alumni and ENSTA Bretagne alumni.
