The Club Mines Finance, in association with Ponts et Télécoms Finance, invites you to its next conference on the theme:"For finance that serves society and the economy" - this is the mission of the European NGO Finance Watch.After the last financial crisis, which highlighted major deficiencies in finance, a new global economic and financial system was needed. Members of the European Parliament wield considerable power in financial regulation, but are confronted with the increasing technicality of regulatory measures emanating from the European Commission and the influence of the financial industry. A group of these MEPs highlighted the lack of an international, independent organization representing the rest of society to develop financial counter-expertise and establish a certain balance. Hence the creation in April 2011 of Finance Watch, which has been very active ever since.Secretary General Thierry PHILIPPONNAT will introduce us to the NGO and tell us about its activities.Thierry PHILIPPONNA: after studying at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris and a Diplôme d'Etudes Approfondies (DEA) in economics, our speaker has had a career in finance spanning over 20 years since 1985. In 2006, he joined Amnesty International, subsequently becoming an elected member of the Executive Board, with a particular interest in the impact of the financial sector on human rights.
