IT offshoring: what impact on management?<br />Management

Dominique de Robillard (Ponts 80), President of the Management and Consulting professional group, is pleased to invite you to a conference/debate on this topic, organized and moderated by Rémi Demange (Ponts 85, eMBA 2008 and President of the MBA professional group) on November 30 at 6:45 pm at the Maison des Ponts (room 5), 15 rue de la Fontaine au Roi 75011 Paris. The outsourcing of IT services in "offshore" mode is an increasingly common practice among major French groups using IT services. Very often, this approach is implemented indirectly, using offshore structures set up by service providers who have their own competence centers in low-cost countries. We'll be looking at the best management practices required to ensure the success of such projects, both on the part of the client's IT teams, and on the part of the service provider's teams. We have invited a number of highly experienced speakers to share their experience in the field with us, "without any tongue in cheek": - Richard Peynot runs the ACSEITIS consulting firm, specializing in outsourcing operations. He previously worked for many years at Forrester Research as an analyst of the IT services outsourcing market. He will give us an overview of the offshore industry in France, focusing on two areas: o The offshore ecosystem: players and contractual arrangements, developments and trends. o Acceptance of offshore outsourcing within the company: IT professionals, IT management, users and company management. - Daniel Parmentelot spent many years setting up an outsourcing unit for IT development projects within a major French industrial group. He will share with us his experience of more than 180 projects with Indian, Chinese, Argentinean and Eastern European service providers. He will share his recommendations and analysis of key success factors. - Frédéric Lasnier heads the IT services company PENTALOG, with offices in France, Romania, the Republic of Moldavia and Vietnam. PENTALOG serves customers in Europe and the US. Frédéric Lasnier will present the issues involved in offshore operations from the service provider's point of view: how to set up, train and manage teams located in faraway countries? How to manage customer relations for this type of service? Through questions and debate between participants and speakers, this seminar will give us the opportunity to discuss the relevance and sustainability of outsourcing IT services, the various possible methods, and the management practices and skills required to successfully implement such approaches. A friendly drink will follow. Registration is required on the Ponts-Alliance website, see link above (Limited number of places - Participation fee: 20 EUR).
