The press has recently reported on the ongoing legal battles between consumer electronics giants Apple and Samsung over intellectual property rights, and analysts have speculated that Google's takeover of Motorola Mobility had a lot to do with its patent portfolio protecting cell phone technologies. What's more, innovation is becoming increasingly important for business competitiveness in our modern economies. Finally, investors, especially venture capitalists, are particularly attentive to intellectual property portfolios when investing in innovative start-ups. This workshop will cover: - General presentation of Intellectual Property and Industrial Property; - Patentability (novelty and inventive step); - Examples of published patents and patent applications; and - Patent exploitation (especially licensing), and infringement actions.
