We live in troubled, multipolar times. It's not easy to spot the signals that will lead to the construction of a more just, balanced, empathetic and generous society. It has become difficult to make a firm commitment on the shifting sands that undermine our tired and worried democracies. All organizations, without exception, are confronted with societal, economic, technological and human resources issues, while at the same time having to maintain their profitability levels in order to ensure their development, sometimes through measures ill-suited to future generations aspiring to greater meaning.

The army is no exception. But few models, either as a counterpoint or as a horizon, can today inspire us as much as the changes undertaken by the army to profoundly rethink its operations. Faced with these upheavals, the men and women who belong to the Ministry of the Armed Forces have, over the past 20 years, been able to reinvent a new paradigm for the armed forces, one that frees itself from previous ways of thinking, leaving plenty of room for innovation, while capitalizing on the good practices that have shaped our identity.
At a time when intelligence and resources need to be pooled, the army could well emerge as one of the archetypes of ultimate trust in a deteriorating geopolitical and economic situation on an international scale.

We wanted to turn these issues into a 21st-century controversy. The first in a long series organized by Acadi.

Digitized combat, questioning hierarchies, the need to recruit differently, articulating the disruption of professions and the values necessary for military commitment, controlling costs while maintaining intervention capabilities in France and abroad, working with the private sphere, anticipating digital revolutions and changes in usage, maintaining the quest for meaning, remaining pragmatic, accepting responsibility, positively reinventing the idea of Nation, participating in the ecological transition...

So many challenges! General Mercier will show us how the army has responded and the paths it has taken.
